Searching for the Meaning of Christmas

I am sitting here early in the morning, in the middle of December nearing the end of my 30's looking at the glow of my beautifully decorated Christmas tree and sipping hot chocolate from a Christmas-themed mug with the scent of a flickering "winter apple crisp" candle lingering in the air. I am struggling to figure out what, if anything, this treasured holiday means to me after nearly four decades. Most people will tell you that Christmas is about celebrating and the birth of Jesus Christ. Others will say it is about families visiting and spending time together. Children will insist that Christmas is about waking up and finding that Santa has come down the chimney to deliver the latest toys and gadgets. And there are escalating numbers of cynics who will declare emphatically that Christmas is just a giant, commercialized pain in the ass. Don't Let the Elderly Pay the Check!

Hi Everyone - Today I want to beg anyone who will listen... DO NOT LET THE ELDERLY PAY THE TAB! We typically serve the birthday Guest a two dollar mini dessert, but since we had such a great relationship going, I got them a large dessert that the whole family could share. I even used vanilla cream to write o...

Waiting on White Women

Hello Everyone - This is my first official blog and I will most likely be writing about my daily shifts in the restaurant business and my continuing efforts to get a job in my field of training and education. Interesting stuff, right? I don't know if I am doing this out of boredom, entertainment, or just a way to vent my frustrations. Either way, I hope that if you are reading this, you either find some entertainment value or have suggestions or advice for me. Today was actually my day off for the week so I will discuss one general issue that frustrates me while waiting tables. White Women! I absoluely can't figure out why they even go out to eat at restaurants when they clearly HATE everything on the menu. For the most part, they tend to modify every single menu item to the point that they have created a totally new item. The way they speak with hissing the letter "S" is like nails on a chalkboard. When they ask for water with "Lotsssssssss and lotssssss o...
